Roberta Arenson
Roberta Arenson grew up in Flint, Michigan and received a Fine Arts
degree from the University of California in Santa Cruz. She has been
interested in arts and crafts as far back as she can remember. She
works in hand-painted cut paper, collage, oil pastel, monoprint, assemblage, and
Photoshop. Over the past 20 years, her colorful collage-illustrated books
of folktales, poetry, gardening, and more have received critical acclaim in the
United States and internationally.
Some of the awards her books have received include: the Americas Book Award for
Children and Young Adult Literature, Gold IPPY Award, Bank Street College of
Education: "Best Children’s Books of the Year," NAPPA Book Award, Parents'
Choice Book Award, Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Award, Tillywig Toy Award,
National Council for the Social Studies, and the Children’s Book Council:
"Noted Social Studies Trade Book for Young People."
Her work has been represented in exhibitions including Immagini Della
Fantasia, Italy; Gallery on the Go: Decordova Museum;
"Paper Capers: Adventures in Paper Art": Wenham Museum; and the
I Colori Del Sacro International Exhibition, Italy.
She also does art and designs for educational publishers, trade book
